A stolen election and a loss of confidence by the majority in a government to adhere to the rule of law -- is but ONE dangerous disintegration that is occurring simultaneously with many others. I'm an engineer. In controls we think of what makes for stability. There is a kind of equilibrium that exists in a valley -- a negative potential well -- it is a stable equilibrium -- there are restoring forces. There is another kind of equilibrium -- akin to being perched at the top of a hill -- precariously balanced. Non-stable equilibrium. Socially I believe the restoring forces have been weakened to a great extent. We know what some of the restoring forces are: trust that institutions are for our good and not malevolent, a common judeo-christian background for a significant majority or minority of those who live here, the ability to work and acquire basic needs -- you can probably think of some others. But the point is -- these restoring forces that exert themselves during disturbances -- they are being eaten away. Our society is not as resilient as it used to be. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
