NWT WEATHER
The current temp range in Yellowknife is -17 to -22C about 10 degrees warmer then average so we are having a mild spell. Sunrise around 9.30 sunset around 4;30 but we are gaining 5-10 minutes of daylight daily.
Im quessing but Snap lake is probably 10 degrees colder and only about six hrs daylight, but they will be gaining light faster.
At the arctic circle 66degrees north you go from 24 hrs of darkness on dec 21 to 24 hrs of light on june 21st. You also go from the sun just getting above the horizon to the sun being high in the sky so as spring approaches the spread between nightime temp and daytime temp widens.(usually).
The winter road is open now and lots of stuff moving north, mid to end of march the sun usually starts to melt the portages and then they have to shut it down but the lakes are still good for another month.
By mid march to mid april between the daylight and the twilight and the snow cover it is sort of light 24 hrs a day. With the sun on the snow everyone who is working outside gets a good tan or burn and you have to watch out for snow blindness which is darned painfull. In the spring blizzards can come up and blowing snow can fill in a road or bury gear in a few hrs.
Hope that helps
