Rich,
How many individuals struggle with addiction issues? Anyone with an ounce of understanding knows that this does not define a person.
Wrong again, Rich. The addiction COMPLETELY defines the person, because it takes over the person's entire mentality. Their ability to function in a job, or in the family, or in everyday life, is 100% affected.

That's why it's called an ADDICTION instead of, say, a hobby or a pasttime. It's harmful, and the addict knows it, but they can't help themselves.

P.S. - I'm not saying that addicts should be treated like criminals just for the addiction itself, but, if their addiction drives them into criminal activity, that should be called out.
