Trump: - Declares that he has “total” authority (April, 2020) - Pressures state officials in states he lost to overturn the popular vote (November, 2020) - Discusses imposing martial law to hold new elections (December, 2020)

Trump supporters: “How DARE you call him a dictator!”

@TheValuesVoter

Trump is an aspiring dictator. People who criticize leaders like Castro, Maduro, Erdegan and Putin but who voted for Trump need to realize that they voted for the American version of these guys. An aspiring dictator. Wrapping himself in an American flag and with a Queens accent.

Pay attention to any dictator. It’s always the same. They all claim to passionately love their countries. They all claim that their actions are in the best interests of the people. And they’re always enabled by others in power, who through either fear or assuagement, let them.

And just as crabs in a boiler adjust to a slowly increasing temperature which eventually makes them unable to resist, dictators slowly but steadily acclimate their populations to the idea that they SHOULD have total authority. Stay in power forever. That laws don’t apply to them.
