Didn't they write NT from the ground up. No!!! Believe it or not they hired a bunch of OS system professionals from DEC to replace that Berkeley crew that was hacking together the code for Bill's wet dreams. The DEC guys build NT. You see Andy one of the things you learn in software development if you work for a real company is that OS system development is not something you turn over to 22 years olds fresh out of college with their CS degrees. As to some of the guys in MSFT's research labs, I believe MSFT ranks 50th in patents this past year. Nice place to retire I'm told what with the stock options.
