My point was not about how happy you are, or should be, or even healthcare, but the 90% of people that have not been flush, are not flush now, nor are they are likely to be so in the future. The pandemic costs will exceed the economic "benefits" being given out and much of that benefit went to the wrong people. This trend has only worsened in the last year. Even those in the upper 10% are seeing declines on average. I've been fortunate and am working, and further working for a company that supports the pandemic economy. I don't use my happiness as a proxy for how bright the future is for even the 50%. I'm still investing in tech and the broad economy until my indicators say "no".

I'm particularly worried about young people. See below. If you look at the median vs. mean distribution in the young, it is even more pronounced than people my age.

Here's a quote from Wikipedia:
A 2011 study found that US citizens across the political spectrum dramatically underestimate the current level of wealth inequality in the US

So you are likely to believe it is not nearly as bad as it is unless you specifically educate yourself about the topic.

Yes there is hunger and there should not be in this rich nation.

But it has gotten much much worse in the last eight months.

Eight million more people in poverty in just the last few months. People are ordered to stay home and they have no job, or money for food for the kids, or for medical needs, etc and more and more no shelter. .

And the Great depression was not just some MORE people going hungry. It was devastating with a huge increase in suicides.

When I was young my parents and grand parents talked about how horrible it was, how beggars were everywhere and shanty towns like the homeless today were pervasive.

Way too many people are desperate now for our social systems to handle and they are crumbling..

And all because the heartless criminal Republicans refuse to pass bills to help the people!!

They will pass a two trillion tax cut for the rich in a second, but don't ask for an extra $600 for the poor!!

The Republicans are shameless.

Wow, morphed from a discussion about the mentality of Americans as we come out of the pandemic - to health care. I happen to believe health care is a right and therefore should cost Americans nothing. Okay tummy tucks and boob jobs should cost.

I'm not sure but given how harsh things were in 1918 pandemic, I'm betting lots of people were struggling then too - but my original point was when they came out of it and returned to more normal times - they partied. I get the same sense people of today will do that too.

There are tons of poor people and downtrodden people and hungry people - but there are lots of people doing really well - with lots of cash. If you don't have enough food at night to feed your children you're not going to party; goodness kind of stating the obvious isn't it? But there were surely lots of hungry people in 1920's too - and still an awful lot of people partied from a pent up need that humans have. Maybe I'm wrong and we will just continue to feel sorry for ourselves and wring our hands and bitch at how bad things are - but I'm betting that is not what happens. We should be happy, Biden is President, we have a vaccine and the government is going to give us more money.............I'm happy. Very happy!
