(98/01/26) ÿ ÿ LG, Intel to Develop Computer TV Technology for Pentium II
------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Business/Industry]- new tech

LG Electronics announced that it reached an agreement with Intel to
develop a technology which will enable users of personal computers to
reproduce digital broadcasting pictures on the computer screens.

Under the agreement, the two companies will initially come up with a
digital television card, which will be pre-installed in computer
equipped with a 300MHz Pentium II processor.

LG Electronics will provide advancements it acquired in developing
digital televisions for the partnership, while the US company will
support it with its technology for Pentium II chips.

The partnership will initially produce a television card for a
standard picture quality, and afterwards a card for high-definition
pictures all by the end of this year, the spokesman said.

The partnership is expected to give an advantage to LG Electronics in
its efforts to get a larger slice from the emerging digital television
market.

In a related move, the company recently established an alliance with a
Japanese electronics giant JVC for the development of digital video
cassette recorders.
