I was not making any point about REE, but using the article to highlight a Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.

The issue / question, rhetorical somewhat, was whether Deng was a good leader, borne of a one-party meritocratic system.

If the answer is “no”, then the discussion highlights a fundamental difference due to our respective lens by which we view what is good for China, as opposed to India or anywhere else.

Should the answer be “yes”, we might then explore any differences there be between Xi Jinping and Deng Xiaoping.
