It is such a wild wild west at this point and, to me at least, impossible to tell which of the numerous companies that are trying to break into the field will ultimately be winners, that constantly comparing them seems like a reasonable thing to do. Until a winner or two becomes more clear. In the meantime, I see the stocks of these companies as crazy roller coasters going up and down with different pieces of news.

LIDAR component companies are hot too. My biggest positions these days are LITE and IIVI.

II-VI +3% named best idea by Cowen bull on 2021 growth drivers
Dec. 22, 2020 2:21 PM ET II-VI Incorporated (IIVI) By: Brandy Betz, SA News Editor

Citing multiple growth drivers, Cowen names II-VI (NASDAQ: IIVI) as one of its best 2021 ideas and maintains an Outperform rating and $86 price target.

Analyst Paul Silverstein expects "a perfect storm of strong ramp of virtually every one of IIVI’s numerous significant, long- tailed growth drivers."

A recent meeting with II-VI management left Silverstein confident that the company is well-positioned for "significant growth" and continuing margin expansion last year.

II-VI shares are up 3.3% to $77.07.
