This mutation is an interesting development.. just thinking out loud...

First I keep hearing transmissibility has increased .. I have no idea how the mutation they are talking about would cause that.. (the spike) ...Cannot see it.. it's not like it has suddenly become more airborne or waterborne ..

It appears that the mutant has changed its landing gear .. ie the spike on the virus that allows it to affix and penetrate a host cell... The new mutation seems to be more efficient at penetrating the cell.. ie actually infecting it... not at finding a host.. so making, sanitizing, distancing etc etc.. are all still just as effective..

The concern for the vaccine is that the vaccine works by causing the human body to create (more on this later in a slightly humorous vein :) the spike portion of the virus (essentially harmless on its own as it does not have the means to initiate production and may not even be able to attach anyway.. ie inert maybe.. couldn't find backup for that term inert) ... causing our bodies to create the Nabs (Neutralising antibodies).. to fight back (by inhibiting adhesion of the spike .. ) so will these antibodies work against the mutant landing gear ? That is what the vaccine makers are investigating .. It may be close enough to work .. maybe at a reduced efficacy .. They don't know yet...

If the spike portion is too modified.. (like a human with one leg cannot walk) the Covid Virus will not even be able to attach.. so moot point.. This mutation though seems to have as mentioned above made it more capable at actually getting the job done.. which made for the transmissibility comments I suppose.. Anyway close enough for government work...the jury is out on the vaccines right now for the mutant. My bet would be it's close enough..

also in the media we hear about proteins.. Why cannot they simply say the attachment mechanism to flesh it out a bit more... makes it much easier to grasp.. I figure they are just reading and have no clue...

Now on to the vaccine (mRNA) mechanism and levity) ,,

so the vaccine causes our body to create a dummy copy of the spike protein (grappling hook).. Our immune system says WTF is this and sends in the troops.. (Nabs or neutralising antibodies or just antibodies)..

the part where our body is induced to create a dummy copy of the spike is surely what has given rise to the hyperbole of it modifying our DNA and mutating us :) and given rise to comments like

This from the Brazilian Prez

So MY question to Pfizer and Moderna et al would be .. if you can fool our bodies into creating a Covid spike .. maybe you can produce a vaccine to help Mr. Bolsonaro grow a fully developed human brain .. I realise that would be a LOT of effort for what might be only 2-3 dose vaccine.. but OTOH.. You would also be indirectly inoculating some 210 MILLION Brazilians :)
