I worked for Intel Oregon from home in Washington state for years and only paid Oregon income taxes for the days I was physically in Oregon. Of course we had an Oregon supreme court ruling in our favor so it was as easy as filing a non-resident tax return.

years ago most lived in ct. no state tax and worked in nyc. everyday out of nyc or ny state you would deduct that from days worked and reduce your gross income for state tax. times change i believe ct has a high state tax now and nyc or nystate taxes all income ?
