Jobs replaced, not cut the board. Don't you think the current board
members are stonger than ever? Jobs kept Newton staff more than
anticipated, and increased staff in certain key products divisions.
Anyway, don't you think Apple is in excellent condition in terms of
staffing now as opposed to Dr. Gil's adminstration's, to maximize the
shareholders' benefits? I would believe so.

"He had the courage to start chopping the dead wood"

If you look at the pivotal points in Apple's recent history, I would credit Dr. Gil with dropping Copeland and starting fresh with OS 8.0 and Rhapsody. By bringing aboard Jobs with Rhapsody, this may have brought about his own demise, but it triggered the recent events with Apple/MSFT, Clones etc.

Gil could easily have sat there and pumped more money into developing Copeland until Apple just withered away for good.
