I don't think sending them $40bil in aid (including the previous batch) or maybe more, to maintain their current routes and employment is necessarily such a good idea.
There ARE others that feel the same way, including me.
The people in the airline industry have high-paying jobs and
I'm sure bank loans would have been/are available to keep
many routes open, especially now with vaccines being given.
In my mind, at least half of the $40B would have been better
spent on keeping up food production (meatpacking, etc.) and
keeping the restaurants open (modernizing, etc.) that are on
the brink of declaring bankruptcy. The vaccines could create
a whole back to normal world 6 to 12 months from now.
