According to Escobar, the drafter of the amendment to the NDAA, Trump's threats to use the military to stop the George Floyd riots was an example of unchecked presidential power to trample on the "free speech" of lawless mobs of violent protesters.

More recently there has been chatter about Trump invoking the Insurrection Act if necessary to help stop the widespread rioting that would surely ensue if the this fraudulent election were either paused or reversed. The requirement of Senate approval for something like this would stop military involvement in domestic affairs dead in it's tracks.

On the plus side, if a murderous communist-style tyrant comes to power, limiting the power to invoke the Insurrection Act could save, or delay the loss of, untold lives.
