TJ all crypto currencies are basically a copy of BTC based on different math formulas and way of encryption. Still for whatever reason BTC is the most popular nothing special there except the fact that I think it was the first crypto currency wit no intrinsic value. The whole banking institutions with the start of SWIFT actually exchanged encrypted currencies that were settles later in cash transactions trough BIS (https://www.bis.org/) established in 1930, as the Bank for International Settlements
