Friday, January 30, 1998 07:15 AM
> AUSTIN, Texas -- Hoover's Online ( hoovers.com ) -- "The Reigning King of Corporate Profiles" according to FORTUNE magazine -- has further staked its claim to the title by covering its 12,000th company. Patrick Spain, CEO of Hoover's, Inc., announced the milestone today and said it cements Hoover's position as the leading provider of information about public and private companies worldwide on the Internet.

"We're adding about 10 new companies a day and we hope to reach our goal of 15,000 enterprises by fall of 1998," Spain said. "Our goal is to cover all of the world's largest and most influential companies."

Spain said part of Hoover's increased focus is on international and private companies. "Today's global market demands access to information on companies around the world and on industry leaders, regardless of whether they are publicly traded or not. In coming months, we'll be adding hundreds of international companies to Hoover's Online, including French, Canadian, Japanese and Latin American companies that are public, private and state- owned."

Spain also noted that Hoover's Online is extending its coverage to include private U.S. companies generating revenues of at least $350 million and every company worldwide with sales of over $5 billion.

Hoover's Online offers free access to 12,000 company capsules, each of which includes a company's description, address and phone numbers, key officers' names, top competitors, basic financial information, employee data and links to stock quotes and charts, news stories, SEC documents and the company's Web site. Searches can be performed by keyword, company name or ticker symbol.

Hoover's Online subscribers, who pay $12.95 a month or $124.95 a year, receive access to 2,700 in-depth Hoover's Company Profiles containing company strategy, history, products and services, competitors, real-time SEC documents and up to 10 years of detailed financial information, plus custom searching by industry, location, annual sales or company type.

According to Spain, the value of Hoover's Online to its viewers lies not only in the volume of companies Hoover's covers, but also in the editorial scrutiny it places on the information provided - including the information provided by links to other sources. "Our editorial and research teams pore through hundreds of news articles, SEC documents and annual reports every day to provide company information that's timely, accurate, engaging, easy to use and objective."
