My concern is how a small operation such as the QNTM/MKE head venture can afford to make the R & D investments made by much larger companies such as IBM, SEG and Fujitsu. Its hard to imagine that Giant MR and future advances can be developed on a shoe string budget. It seems that if Quantum could form an alliance with one of their major head suppliers for technology in exchange for business, it would be more feasible. However, if Quantum is doing this, its news to me.
Also, are you hearing of improvements just since Jan 1st since last quarter was obviously a disaster.
With WDC saying that they outproduced QNTM's 2.1 GB/platter program last qtr and Maxtor obviously close, I continue to have real problems with the Quantum claim that being in the head business keeps them ahead of the curve on drive density. Another very good reason to doubt this claim is that Quantum's heads don't go into their desktop drives.
