And I think it is because it is interesting and the actors are interesting, especially the lead actor. I mostly watch movies from around the world. Hollywood is so full of stupid formula films made only for money and really are very simple. Car chases and gratuitous violence. One knows everything that will happen, which isn't much and certainly seldom profound . And because of that, over the last eight to ten years, I always end up returning to South Korean and Asian films as they very often hold my interest. And I think it is the quality of the movies and the quality of the dialogue and so many interesting people. Recently, I watched portions of about 20 movies and found few of them interesting. And then as happens so often I stumbled across a run of the mill silly South Korean romantic soap opera comedy that has my attention like queens Gambit did. I'll expose my flank and name it "Run On'. This is a romantic soap opera, but not like one you will ever find in Hollywood. If you listen carefully to the dialogue it is very witty and very sophisticated. It is like a bunch of very smart people writing it are bantering with each other. The dialogue is so unique and fun. And it is important to point out, the human interactions, how they interact with each other is totally foreign to the west. And unlike Hollywood, the interest does not come from violence it comes, like queens gambit from interesting stories and people. In the South Korean films I find myself interested in the people and I often like how they behave, e.g. they often struggle with moral issues and introspection is common, unlike Hollywood where there is little introspection. In a nut shell I feel South Korean films are much more often engaged in abstract higher order reasoning, whereas Hollywood still produces movies of concrete thinking and seldom involves in any reasoning. Put simply, the South Korean and other Asian films, IMO, are much more intelligent and well done. PS Netflix a while back had a documentary on K-pop South Koreas music industry and they said it was light years ahead of ours with the videos of much better quality. JMO cheers
