Sankar:

It is so nice to read your parable. Per capita income is hogwash, truly. And they call it "Standard of Living". Are climatic conditions taken into 'account' when comparing 'standard of living' across countries. Divorce? Suicide? Depression? Beauty of cities? Noise levels? Taste of fruit?

Anyway, I gave up even talking about this idea a long time ago, but it's lovely to hear it from someone else once again.

But one thing, wasn't that boatman a bit inconsiderate of all those people who no doubt had needs of various degree to cross the river?

Sankar I have been very hard on you.

Your graceful and touching story was really quite dear and to the point. I do thank you for your many and varied contributions to this foruum, always they are informed and well thought out. I even think your boatman is right except in the winter.

Perhaps off topic since we are all here in the US, our Indians, our Chinese, our Japanese ( I was looking at company today in Mass. where the owner was Japanese resident in Mass.) our Brits, even our Americans who were born here, we have erected in America in 1998 a multi-cultural society the likes of which has never truly been seen before anywhere at any time in history. I don't know what American values are anymore because we are so much so many different pieces and constituencies.

At that let's put this idea of Asian values along with Slick and his problems to rest and think about when the "Asian crisis" will abate. Any ideas? What countries are you looking at to invest in. I am quite interested in this Sankar, your opinions.

Again, sorry for my bad temper.
