Slider,

Here are my thoughts.

The .300 WIN MAG is already the go to rifle for USMC snipers and should be adopted soon by the US Army.

So regarding .300 WM ammo. It should be one cartridge that is readily available because of its utility to hunters. SIG makes a great 190 grain match grade cartridge. SIG has the Army contract to manufacture so it will be available. SIG also sells direct to the public and the .300 WM is the only caliber that is available on their website.

For maximum performance I recommend the 210gr Berger match ammo.

Now for my thoughts on how I built a budget rifle.

The Remington 700 is the most ubiquitous bolt gun out there. The Long Range model gives you a 26 in bull barrel combined with a fair base model stock. You can upgrade if you want but it is a great value for $700.

Now for the glass, again I am sticking with a budget but the Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 can be had for under $1k. Not bad for a scope that has a lifetime warranty. Now you can go with more quality and higher priced glass out there, but I am sticking with the maximum performance for the best value.

.300 WM muzzle brake. Muzzlebrakesandmore.com This guy shows you what his does against the competition. I would say he is around 20% less felt recoil vs the competition and the same price. Felt recoil is now in the .30-06 range so very manageable.

Now for the pièce de résistance. Team this up with a Laser Range Finder and a ballistics app. I chose an ATN model with blue tooth because I may be trying one of their ATN Scope soon. As a former Cavalry Officer I have an appreciation for what an LRF and ballistic computer can do. The great thing is an average marksman today can use the same technology in the palm of their hand to maximize there chance of first round hits. Now it doesn't turn you into a sniper but it shortens the learning curve.

So here was my budget.

$708 rifle

$125 Muzzle Brake

$30 20 MOA rail

$950 Scope

$54 Vortex pro series rings

$300 ATN LRF

$41 UTG super duty bipod

So for a $2000 budget I have a rifle "system" with great capability.

G-n-G

PS. I like the PA ACSS. I have one on one of my 5.56. Great sight for determining range quickly and transitioning proper reticle holdover. I would say their system is great without ACOG prices.
