I visited the divided Berlin, it was really creepy......there were apartment buildings that were half demolished so people couldn't get a zip line set up to sail over the wall. The kill zone around the wall, and at the border of east and west Germany were really scary. We camped in a campground that was right next to the wall, on the east side were multiple layers of barbed wire to create consecutive layers potential escapees would have the through, one would have a talcum power like deep soil where you could easily be traced, then a zone filled with mean German Sheperds, then if you reached the wall, there were shrapnel explosives every 10-15 feet with trip wires.

The East Germans had dead eyes, and wouldn't make eye contact.

I was with a buddy on motorcycles, leaving Berlin towards Hanover we took a wrong turn and hit a dead end into a Soviet military base, got pulled over and escorted out by military police...an interesting day.
