dell should have bot dec...
but, they had to stop using dec for sales and support with the cpq purchase.
they signed with wang after cpq announced the dec purchase.
they didn't wait long to change from dec to wang.
but their rma systems are on dec..that will stay.
dell is boxed in
unisys is the only one left and I wouldn't buy it.
I'm trying to figure out what dell does long term.
short term they will still make allota money, but they need a year 2000 plan.
cpq,hp,ibm are ready for enterprise computing, and the service and support needed for the future.
dell is still working on it...the wang deal isn't enough.
keep in mind that dec was a 34% gross margin compnay(increased from 32 to 34 last report) and the service stuff was a 50% gross margin.
dec will not have pc's dragging it down anymore. cpq is a 27.6 margin.
dell is only a 25+% margin
dec couldn't make money on pcs even though they used the cheaper AMD chips so that part of the dec drag down will be gone.
