I don't know what their yield problems are due to. Sanders openly denied, in the most recent conference call, that it was the local interconnect.

Then again Sanders has been known to tell things that WERE NOT TRUE! Check AMD's 1995 annual report for law suit information.

IBM has evolved their process over the years and as such has good process control, understanding, predictability and yields. AMD, essentially running the same 0.35 micron process, had no experience with the local interconnect process, massive deployment of CMP, tungsten plugs, etc.

Essentailly, they are doing processs development with production wafers in the MegaFlop 25.

I hope their customers don't mind the "test vehicles" they are buying as K6's.
