brian, qdog et al Have you guys forgotten this is the QCOM thread, the thread that is famous for completely off topic stuff on weekends? Why all the relevant and meaty discussions? Seriously, I am still questioning the market for this 3g stuff. Not trying to be Gilder, I don't see the high demand for data feeds via the cell phone because, as qdog mentioned, that the wireless technology simply cannot surpass the wired, via cable or fibre optics or whatever. By the time cell phones get to, say, a 56k type speed, wired speed may be up to 20,30 100 m/sec? I also envision by then that payphones will also be internet phones, especially at airports, convention centers, hotel rooms, golf courses and by the beach (for those who told their bosses they are working at home). Slide your credit card through and you pay $xxx per minute, at sometype of DSL speed via a laptop. 3g for the purpose of transmitting data may end up being essential to a niche market, such as the travelling salesman who wants to send orders to headqtrs while sitting in traffic. Are all the providers, be it CDMA or GSM, going to spend huge amounts to uprade, when the majority of their customers are still just looking for a clear connection to call their kids or interns at a low low price? There was an article that described Dr. V's vision of a dual system, one for voice and one for data, which makes the most sense to me. From a practicle standpoint, I can see providers charging one rate for the voice usage and another rate for the data usage. I guess I am still somewhat confused by the big fuss at this time over 3g, despite of all the excellent posts this weekend. Ramsey
