OK I got it - no the mine should never open.

Open pit mines are devastating for the environment and more so if there is a process of refining the actual ore sought after.

The best examples of ecological failures of open pit mines are in Siberia, but no one saw or heard about it, only a few are grabbing a fortune leaving behind devastation of nuclear bombing size which will not recover for decades if at all.

Bottom line is an issue of life quality and food security that cannot be measured v. short term monetary benefit.

What if all the salmon run will stop as a result? How many hundred tons of food will get lost? Yes you could grow them in cages and eat sick minerals deprived salmon as food.
