Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) has formulated a three-year business plan--a vision for the digital age--covering the fiscal periods from 1998 through 2000. The new plan will spotlight digitization and NHK's role in preparing for the new age of digital broadcasting. A detailed business plan will be decided upon as early as FY98. NHK will concentrate on 1) expanding lines to viewers; 2) developing a basic strategy for digital broadcasting by 2000; 3) extending regional and international information via land-feed broadcasts and revamping satellite programming; 4) developing Hi-Vision programs; 5) enhancing FM broadcasts through round-the-clock operation; 6) strengthening digital-related businesses, such as DVD software; 7) entrenching broadcasting ethics; 8) configuring a process for new-business promotion; and 9) maintaining current license fees.
