The main competitors for QWST are the ones you know of like AT&T, FON, MCIC, WCOM and to a lesser extent GTE. There are many smaller regional fiber companies that may or may not compete head to head with QWST on a regional basis.

It may be that AT&T is leasing capacity on the QWST network since they are way behind with their own. I believe that MCI/WCOM is also behind to a lesser extent. FON is in the process of upgrading their network.
