They make a great summer load. Need to be alert to the fact that hollow points that fill up with leather or heavy denim before the hit meat will usually fail to expand and will act as solids. Hollow points only expand reliably when impacting liquids.....yuk.

Keep in mind that the only way to stop a fight and stay alive is to incapacitate your attacker in under 3 seconds. This requires a hit to central nervous system or a shut down of blood flow. If your bullet does not reach these areas because they open up and stop, you are still in danger. Contrary to typical thinking the breaking of large bones and vertebrae yield better stopping of threats than even several light caliber hollow points to the check. Folks can stay alive a long time after being shot several times. You only get 3 seconds to hit the right spots.

The bullet will penetrate deeper and may actually yield good results.

In the winter I load truncated round nose bullets or very hard cast semi wad-cutter. I'm a bit nuts I guess but I change dependent upon climate, temperature and the potential cover I might have to penetrate....like a car door or window.....or garbage can etc. History shows that this is an important issue.
