Re: ...OPTITEK INC... They are working on holographic memory storage.

I don't know anything about Optitek, but a lot of people are working on the same thing from IBM to Stanford to the U.S. Government, all the way down to Optitek apparantly. The government has a lot of money out funding this kind of work through various subcontractors.

The sugar cube you refer to is probably just the storage medium itself, the floppy disk so to speak, and not the entire drive as it were. The units that are publicly shown around have such a tiny chunk of material that actually stores the data, but also a lot of lasers, optics, electronics, etc., that make it work.

Personally, I'd guess that the chances of one little startup pulling out THE solution and being able to market it successfully ahead of the thundering herd in this area are slim. On the other hand, who knows? They might get lucky. You've got to remember though, that by the time some scientific development gets to TV, it's not really news to those involved with the technology for the years necessary to get it that far.

<<Has anybody heard about a company called OPTITEK INC. ?
I saw a small story about them on the TV. They are working on
holographic memory storage.>>
So are IBM and others if I recall correctly. Wonder who has the biggest budget?
