Portable a problem?

No, not in itself. But the manufacturers know that portable devices are generally niche products, and are priced accordingly. Notice the price point for digital cameras. The average price has hovered around $500 to $600 for a couple of years now. Instead of lowering the price as time goes by, they have opted to improve the electronics and optics. They fully realize the elasticity of demand for this niche, and are able to set a relatively stable price to squeeze every dollar they can out of it.

The success of Vapor! depends on getting the general public to hop on board the portable electronics bandwagon. However, I believe that instead of buying a $500 digital camera with Vapor! on board, Joe and Marge Whitebread will buy a $70 auto-35mm film camera, a $150 Nintendo64 for the kids, that pretty Banana Republic blouse for $70, 2 tickets to the Knicks game, groceries for a week, and a case of Bud.
