Here's more detail. Looks like congress is doing this. I didn't know they had the power to do it:

Two thousands U.S. National Guardsmen were handed the power of federal Marshals last night, with more deputations expected in the coming days. The news comes as part of the wildly disproportionate response from Congressional authorities and the military to the small riot that took place inside the nation’s Capitol on January 6th.

“Their duties will include protecting members of Congress and other congressional personnel and securing the grounds and property of the U.S. Capitol,” the National Guard said in vague statement.

The ceremony took place on Sunday night outside the U.S. Capitol.

The U.S. Marshals Service is America’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, employing only around 3,829 deputy U.S. marshals and criminal investigators.

According to the service: “The duties of the U.S. Marshals Service include protecting the federal judiciary, apprehending federal fugitives, managing and selling seized assets acquired by criminals through illegal activities, housing and transporting federal prisoners and operating the Witness Security Program.”

Deputation gives National Guard personnel police powers in the nation’s capitol, and others are expected to follow.

Other agencies – including the U.S. Capitol Police, U.S. Park Police, and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department – will soon also be sworn in, according to the National Guard. There has, to date, been no rationale offered.

The U.S. Capitol continues to be occupied, to a greater extent than Basra in Iraq was during the height of the U.S. invasion, by military and police forces.

The National Mall will be locked down and empty for Inauguration Day, the Capitol complex has been sealed shut by a ring of steel, and conservatives on social media have been mass deplatformed so as to avoid transparency and scrutiny of the power being seized.

All the while, the Democrats claimed Trump in office was “not normal.” Yet they have pushed the militarization of the Capitol city and the breakdown of American institutions.
