That hadn't even occurred to me in writing my message. For the record, no I don't. MU would decide on the most profitable use/disposition of its fab long before any government agency would, I'm sure of that.

My point is that when this Lehi plant was proposed, there were all kinds of expectations on jobs to be created (which creates income tax), property tax on the fab itself, increased second-order activity (building the equivalent of a few towns for the workers), etc. None of this has come to pass, and any budget that had these things figured in must either be adjusted back down or have another company fill the bill. It might very well be the case that UT contacted INTC rather than what seems to be implied in the article.
