I think this is the first time in its history Sun is in a position to satisfy all three tiers of computing: desktop (with the Javastation), workstation (Darwin and other Ultras), and enterprise/mainframe (Starfire and other Enterprise servers).

Have you looked at the prices Microsoft wants for NT Server Enterprise Edition? I think Solaris will have no trouble competing.

But that's JMHO.

I think you ought to wait a bit before deciding about Suns' future. As you say, there is a short term benifit coming Suns way, and how long that lasts is anyone's guess. But I would have to think a year at least. So there's probably good profit to be made with Sun for now. And Scott is no dummy, so we shall see what he's got planned.
Plus we have the lawsuit that hasn't even gotten started yet, which could be a pretty big event before its over.
If I only had a crystal ball.
