TJ, the whole concept of photon splitting was envision long ago by a US/German scientist whit whom I share the same heritage and studied at the university he helped to establish - HUJ

The practical use of split photons started about 20 years ago after substantial advances where done in lasers, not a Chinese invention.

Gordon Gould was an American physicist who is often credited with the invention of the laser, and many others improved on the concept. At HUJ as a student we engaged in working with various kinds of lasers splitting beams on various crystals including carbon dioxide laser developed at Bell Labs (you can search)

At that time if I am correct Mao was busy destroying all academic institutions as useless and sent the researcher or to beaten by the mob or to work on farms.

I already directed you to an article I wrote 3 years ago about split photons communications in the battle field at platoon/company level. At the time QKD secure communication was already in experimental use since 2002/3 under a DARPA developed project. A quantum network was build and running since 2004 in the US.

Therefore what China did is nothing more than taking an US developed technology visioned long before, learned all publicized academic papers and started experimenting 10 or 12 years later, and succeeded

That is all.

If other countries have similar systems for confidential/secret communications over long distances, I am certain they have them, but did not send me the details by registered mail.

China is NOT at the forefront of technology mostly because Mao destroyed most if not all academic institutions and the knowledge accumulated that took generation to build.
