Did you ever watch the movie "Advise and Consent"? The president put forth a controversial nominee for a post the Senate has to approve. Tells the story of the behind the scenes maneuvering to get him passed or stop him. The Majority leader is doing everything he can to get him though. In the middle of the climatic vote the VP, who is presiding over the vote is handed a note telling him the President is dead. The VP shares the news with the Senate and announces he, as President, is pulling the nomination, The Speaker comes up to the VP, now President saying, Mr. President, I'm here to serve you. Thus it has always been. Mitch McConnell is a willing tool of whatever forces are in control.
