Pass Pass, not very likely, the fibers themselves will be quite expensive to make so that their losses would be under a decibel per km, and last, they would be competing with very low cost laser diodes. There are few other reasons (such as size, cooling, killing a fly with a 12" gun etc.).

There are some other areas where I think that CYMI systems could be beneficial, however, one would be in unique chemical processing system (I have just filed a patent on exactly that subject, using as a light source a Cymer light bulb (g).)..

Cymer lasers are not designed for optical com. Much less demanding and cheaper alternatives exist for that purpose. Tulvio
