I think the numer reflects sales that will involve Fibre Channel Solutions. EMLX is running at about $20 mil a year in sales - which would only give them 1% of fibre channel sales - using the figures in the article. But apart from HP (which I am not sure about) they seem to be dominating the fibre channel adaptor market. Assuming they can grow their sales in line with the fibre channel product market - that would still a be 500% increase in revenues over 2 years. They also seem to be the veterans/proponents of this market.

"While I am not sure on many of the numbers, I think when you see such large numbers, like Billions, I think they are including all the FC stuff and not just adapter cards, controllers, switches and hubs. I think some of these crazy numbers come from including servers, and RAIDS and so forth. Sun claims to have shipped a lot of FC stuff outside of switches, adapters for some time, i believe"

I am in total agreement with you.
You and others on SI know how these numbers are presented, however, when the investing public see these figures they do not necessarily understand, yet they still make decisions based on what the 'experts' tell them.

I wonder whether automobile tire companies also add the value of the vehicle when they talk numbers ;-)
