The powers of the presidential pardon clearly need reexamining. I assumed everyone bought into the notion that all pardons had to be reviewed by an office in DOJ. And their recommendations followed. Clearly those were nonbinding.

My view is that it has been the Congress voluntarily giving up its powers to the Executive Branch so they can get re-elected by not having to take tough votes. It started with the Korean War, when Congress discovered that they could let wars happen without having to declare them. It's gotten worse ever since.

The irony, of course, is that eventually a dictator is declared and that dictator will then eliminate Congress as being unnecessary....We may have dodged a bullet with Chump because of his laziness and stupidity, but that was just dumb luck. We are not likely to be so lucky next time.
