Hang Seng up over 8% as I type. Maybe a good day tomorrow for us?

Is there some reason that no one mentions the fact
that the Ultra Sparc IIi (Darwin)is a 64 bit processor?
The PC press sure hasn't noticed. For the price
of a mid range PC you can now buy a 64 bit processor
and operating system from Sun. Incorporating a PCI bus
interface and memory controller it should be a piece of
cake for the mother board cloners to use this chip and
nock of a copy and set up the screw driver shops.

Ken Okin of Sun Microsystems actually setup this independent comment with his rambling, incoherent and inconclusive announcement about the planned add-on Wintel card. Apparently those who need e-mail should use Windows:

"The main advantage is having a single box for engineers who need a word processor or e-mail. It makes sense from a management perspective," said Jon Oltsik, an analyst with Forrester Research.

They also announced that it would run as fast as a 300 Mhz Pentium II put that they will use either a Cyrix or AMD processor. AMD can't even live up to their current contractual agreements with IBM and Compaq thanks to severe yield problems and Cyrix offers hybrid processor/multimedia chip. Pentium II isn't even an option for an add-on PCI card. Sun needs to take a page out of Intel's playbook and not comment on unrelease products. Barring that, have their press releases pre-screened for signs of intelligent life.
