Greetings Paul, just thought I would throw in a couple comments.
Personally I dont buy the large tonnage arguement for mines in the NWT. As anywhere it is the cost to mine and process a ton of material vs what that ton is worth via mineral/gem content. Discovery mine which was a success full and profitable mine ran in the sixties they processed a mere million tons of rock and recovered a million ounces of gold.
If a small but high grade kimberlite is found up here it will be mined. Diamonds being gems are far different then most minerals mined.
An ounce of gold is worth a certain amount but a carat of diamonds could be worth a few dollars or several thousand dollars. So the number of carats per ton is important but even more important is the value per carat.
Because of costs of operation in the north one could advance a very valid cases that a small highgrade operation would be considerably more economic then a large tonnage operation of moderate grade.
Food for thought:)
regards Walt
