I've noticed that several times at least the hostages are not fooled by the construct they find themselves, "Let's pretend to along with it." Seems to be the principle. But there are many true believers and cynical thugs who loot while the looting's good or who just love the evil power for the fun of it. In my youth Dr Zhivago covered the situation well, albeit in another time and place. Germany took over German places just before WWII with a misguided idea of property rights. Looks as though China has similar ideas. I wonder how things will go. Interesting that Americans chose Biden over Trump. With Trump, he was in charge but with Biden the backroom collective tells him what to say. I vastly prefer the highly predictable Trump to the innate evil of Biden and cronies. Gold should do better than atomic bombed cities. It's not at all certain that there will not be a shot heard around the world. Strange that CO2 emissions are so interesting to so many while aircraft carriers and hypersonic rockets dare each other. How are Hong Kong property prices going? I wonder why Emperor Pooh Xi thinks it a problem if Taiwan and Hong Kong become independent countries. South Korea and Singapore don't seem to be problems for China. Bigger isn't better.
