You are right on both counts. Dogs are very perceptive and feel the tension in their owner, which in turn affects them.

And they also learn quickly from other dogs. In fact some trainers use a well trained dog as an effective teacher assistant to teach a new pup what to do.

I was planning to get a dog this summer, but the way the lockdown is going I will probably have to skip this summer and postpone it to next summer :(
