Well, in IL I can believe it.

The first I ever heard about kids and guns at school was when my son was in high school and one of the guys he knew was kicked out of school for having his hunting rifle in his truck. That would have been in the 90s. I thought it was crazy. There had been no gun violence at our schools and AFAIK, still hasn't.

OTOH, with the proliferation of drug abuse I can see how it is an issue.

Where I grew lots of people hunted before school in the morning, after school in the afternoon, and all weekend. I didn't care for it but many people I knew did. When I was in the 8th grade a friend and I would strap our shotguns onto our Hondas and go bird hunting near the airport, leaving before daylight to get there.

It was boring but something boys did back then. None of us ever thought of shooting a person.
