buy on despair, sell on euphoria: I sold all my KLAC at 40 today, after getting in at 34.3 on 1-12-98. 17% in 3 weeks. All the semi-equips, and the S&P 500, inched above their 8-month trading range today. This is either the start of a breakout, or a false rally which ends soon. If it's a breakout, I've still got my 17%. If it's a false rally, then I'll buy again at 34. My guess is that there is still more bad news coming from East Asia, and the DRAM price will not sustain it's strength of the last month, and there will be a lot of warnings and earnings disappointments in the second and third quarters, so we'll get more good buying opportunities mid-year. Maybe.

We have one more up day in this run (maybe a second flat one).
By midweek most semi-equip stocks, and most others for that
matter will be over bought and will pull back. I sold some
KLAC calls today. I'm looking to get back in KLAC or AMAT on
Fri or Mon. KLAC ~36 by the first of next week.
Unless the general rally continues longer and
pulls the stock price with it.
I have a feeling that the NSM earnings gloom today was not the
only one we will see this month.
