Cost reductions improve gross margins, they don’t force price reductions. Competition (price wars) drive price reductions.

If you believe that price wars have resulted in the over 99.9% price reductions over the last 3 decades, without putting NAND companies out of business, I have a penny stock I'd like to sell you. Its called elasticity of demand, and price reductions are the GOAL, not the effect of price wars.

My understanding is disk sales, in total, are declining, each year.

PC disk sales are declining. The disk drive market is increasing. Better yet, the highest margin segment of the disk drive market is increasing: horizontechnology.com

Project X? Is Micron making a disk drive?

No.
