Jim - Re: "Covington and chip sets"

That article seems OK except the part about the L2 cache. Of course, if the Covington is a Slot 1 Deschutes without Internal L2 cache, the chip set is not relevant - the Deschutes controls the L2 cache (if avaliable).

As for cost of the existing 440LX, I'm not up to speed on that one. I do have some information on the 440BX - made on the 0.35 micron process.

It is yielding at a level commensurate to the Pentium MMX - on a process that has been in production for nearly 2 1/2 years.

Of course, the yields are less than 100% - but not by too much.

My estimate is that the raw silicon costs for the 440BX will be less than the cost of a good $10 cigar.

Of course, it will also cost less than the price of a bad $10 cigar.

And that is a fully enabled 400BX.
