Dale, do you use FOX Plus or trade from the Fidelity Website? I use FOX+ and have no trouble shorting by electronic trade. I get a little warning screen asking me if I'm sure I know what I'm doing but just click through it and go on to the trade. The only complaint I have about Fidelity is that you often don't get a confirmation of the trade for a couple of hours (as compared to seconds on longs). If shares aren't available, the trade is tagged as "pending cancellation." Otherwise, I have no complaints. Ron

Yes, online. I don't believe it actually drops through to a broker for approval either. You can be short 3 seconds after you hit the submit key, provided you hit an uptick bid.
