NT on the Alpha chip is not 64 bit.

Please don't rely on me for anything but entertainment value; I'm ignorant and biased (just ask Twister), and everything I say here is just my humble opinion.

As for the Alpha, visit

tpc.org

some time and compare the Alpha-based systems with the Sparc-based systems. For instance, an AlphaServer 8400 5/625 with 10 612 MHz Alpha processors (available soon) does a TPC-C of 24,537; in comparison, an Ultra Enterprise 6000 with 16 250 MHz Sparc processors (available last August) does a TPC-C of 23143 (about 6% lower than the Alpha system). The processor "firepower" for the Alpha is 10*612=6120 while for the Sparc it is 16*250=4000 (only about 2/3 as much). Draw your own conclusions about what an Alpha MHz is worth relative to a Sparc MHz.

Of course, as always, that's JMHO!
