Yes, you are right, Terrence. Presidents have little to do with macroeconomic trends. Why so few Americans understand that is quite puzzling to me, as well. "Dow Jones, not Paula Jones" and all of those idiotic phrases currently sweeping the country would almost make it seem like there are a lot of people who make complex political decisions based on the yesterday's most attention getting spin. Scary!!!

Terry, last night on 60 minutes the left wing biased in the mainstream press was clearly shown. The editing of the original Jennifer Flowers interview was discraceful reporting. Is it any wonder people believe the world is going to end from Global Warming and Overpopulation? Michael

FT, I agree with you that the president has very little to do with the economy, but you can be sure Clinton would be blamed if it was bad, so he might as well take the credit for the good economy. Reagan certatainly would have. Indeed our economic prosperity has more to do with an increase in productivity brought on by computers. I think they came just in time to compensate for the poorly educated graduates coming out of our school system brought on by the dumbing down of our textbooks by the Christian right. We will feel the effects of that for many years to come. We American's invariably elect the man with the best line of bullshit, and the most charisma to be president. We should not be too surprised then when he turns on the bullshit and charisma when backed into a corner. Reagan was the first modern president to perfect the technique, and Clinton is merely following his example. I am indifferent about Clinton, but I think he will serve out his term. I think that he is being unfairly vilified. His lies are about personal matters, while Reagan told many that were about National security issues, such as the KAL airline crash, the Contras, Iran arms deal, etc. Clinton's lies are trivial in comparison. They are for his wife to deal with, not us. Del
