I am suprised you think this. We seem to agree on most things, but not on this. Why do you believe this? My view is that Japan is the cause of this only in that they are the model for many of the other 'asian tigers'. Any system that is completely non-transparent, and where loans are made based on who you know, is bound to crash sooner or later. These kinds of systems can work well when you are playing catch up, but they stink at the more difficult job of moving into the lead. The Koreans have no one to blame but themselves. The only possible connection that I can see from the Japanese banking system to the rest of SEA is that if Japan were to come out of its slump, it would help improve the export market for the rest of SEA, but that wouldn't solve the underlying problem in their banking systems.
